Cash for Clunkers Math Seeing Zeros

July 28, 2009 by paschconsulting

With thousands of clunkers already turned in, many people doing the Cash for Clunkers math predict the monies are about to dry up.

With an estimated 20,000 dealers accepting trade-ins for CARS credits and only 1 billion in funding, Cash for Clunkers math dictates that demand will far exceed the supply. If each participating dealer has booked 10 sales under the CARS program, 200,000 cars of the estimated 250,000 will have been sold by today.

Car dealers are already reporting upwards of 30-50 deals that already came in since the start of the program.   Greenway Dodge in Orlando Florida says that have already completed 38 Cash for Clunkers deals.  According to Conrad Letson, General Manager, “Traffic to our store nearly tripled since the program started.  This Saturday we spoke with over 100 people looking to make a Cash for Clunkers deal.  On a typical Saturday we might see about 35.”

Other dealers across the country are reporting the same overwhelming statistics.  According to Stacy Blackwell, Vice President of Bill Dodge Auto Group in Maine, “The response to the CARS program has been overwhelming.  We had 50 plus orders ready to go prior to the Friday launch date, did another 20 over the weekend and they just continue to roll in.  If it is being this well received by consumers across the country I cannot imagine the funds will be available for long.”

The staggering response to the program leads many to wonder; will the government’s Cash for Clunkers program need its own government bailout?  And if so, how quickly can congress get additional money to support the demand.   The momentum is picking up quickly as national ads on the radio and TV continue to flood the markets.

The NHTSA website located at www.cars.gov  will be posting the amount of remaining funds in the program.  The momentum of back-logged sales could mean that the NHTSA countdown clock with have a very short lifespan.

While funds continue to dry up, consumers are also petitioning for changes to the bill’s language.  Those with clunkers that did not qualify for the program based on standardized fuel ratings are lobbying for more flexible language in the bill’s provisions.

An online petition with over 3,000 registrants will be sent to the bill’s original sponsors.  To petition for more flexible regulations and more Cash for Clunkers funds, visit http://www.nocashforclunkers.com/

Chrysler Creates Universal Cash For Clunkers Program

July 23, 2009 by paschconsulting

Chrysler finally lays their cards on the table and rivals Hyundai by unveiling their Double Cash for Your Old Car promotion.  Consumers can combine their current incentives with their Cash for Clunkers rebate to save up to $9,000 on qualifying models.

American ingenuity.  Chrysler played their poker hand perfectly, waiting until the last minute to unveil their Cash for Clunkers sales strategy.  With their cards on the table, Chrysler announces that they will offer additional rebates and incentives for consumers using a Cash for Clunkers credit.    The additional rebates can be combined with government issued CARS credits, adding up to $9,000 in savings on new Chrysler cars.

Chrysler’s timing couldn’t be better.  The American auto maker is the first US manufacturer to rival Hyundai’s Royal Flush.  Early in July, Hyundai was the first to disclose their Cash for Clunkers sale strategy, announcing that they would accept qualifying clunker trade-ins and issue rebates for clunkers turned in as early as July 1st. .

The ‘Chrysler Double Cash for Your Old Car’ will offer consumers additional incentives that can be combined with the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) credit.  For some consumers this can equal up to $9,000 off the MSRP for new cars that qualify for the NHTSA CARS program.  The program will start on July 23rd

The program also gives hope to consumers who don’t qualify for the NHTSA CARS program.  With the Chrysler incentives, consumers can realize savings equivalent to consumers who can get government credits under the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS).  In effect, Chrysler has created a universal Cash for Clunkers program for all Americans without all the paperwork.

Under the Double Your Cash program, Chrysler dealers will offer up to $4,500 Consumer Cash or 0% financing for 72 months through GMAC Financial Services on most 2009 model vehicles.  For example, qualifying consumers can get $9,250  in credits to purchase a 2008 PT Cruiser by combining a CARS credit of $3,500 and with Chrysler incentives.  If their clunker doesn’t qualify for CARS credit, they can still get $5,750 off the MSRP of a PT Cruiser.

This information and more details about Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge specific incentives by model, you can view the summary incentives chart on:  http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.com/car-dealers/incentives/chrysler

Chrysler car shoppers who do not have a qualifying CARS clunker to trade in are still eligible for consumer cash and bonus cash.  Consumers can learn more about the Cash for Clunkers program and request a call from a participating local dealer by visiting http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.com/

Cash for Clunkers Trade-in Interest Points To Ford and Chevy

July 9, 2009 by paschconsulting

New information posted by consumers on the Cash for Clunkers Facts blog indicates that consumers are actively planning to trade in their qualifying clunker to purchase a new vehicle with a NHTSA Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) credit.  According to information collected from the site, a third of consumers will be trading in Ford and Chevy cars and trucks.

At the same time, consumers have also noted their top picks for a new car purchase as Toyota, Honda, Ford and Chevrolet vehicles.   This presents an interesting opportunity for Chevy and Ford dealers across the nation to aggressively market to their existing customer lists to prevent them from jumping ship to another brand.

To see the complete list of information on consumer trade-ins, visit:  http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.com/bill/cash-for-clunkers-trade-in-vehicles

When the program starts in mid-July, consumers will have the opportunity to trade in their existing vehicle for a new, more fuel efficient vehicle.  The program is aimed at reducing the number of ‘gas guzzlers’ on the road by replacing them with new cars designed to be more eco-friendly.  It’s a move some suggest could help environmental factors and position the US to rely less on foreign oil.  Consumers will also save plenty at the pump.  The new bill rewards consumers who select new cars that get a fuel efficiency of 10MPG or more with a $4,500 credit.

Cash for Clunkers Implementation Delayed Until Late July

June 23, 2009 by paschconsulting

The most visited website for Cash for Clunkers (CFC) information is reporting that  the Car Allowance Rebate Program (CARS), the system administering the CFC program, will be implemented in Late July.  The government website was vague in releasing a firm start date, announcing only that the program would begin ‘late July’.

This poses a question about when consumers can purchase a qualifying new car because the PDF document outlining the language of the bill on the CARS website indicates cars purchased between July  1, 2009 and November 1, 2009 will qualify for the program.  These conflicting dates need clarification by the NHTSA but it would seem that the CARS website is advising car buyers to contact their local dealers in late July.

Car dealers across the nation and consumers alike have been following the progress of the bill  on www.CashforClunkersFacts.com , the #1 destination for consumers seeking information on the bill.  Undoubtedly, both consumers and dealers are looking forward to a July 1st start date, which would have made for a frenzied holiday shopping weekend.

Now that the Cash for Clunkers  has pushed the implementation date to Late July , the government has more time to educate consumers and dealers about the provisions of the new bill.  To date,  only basic information about the program has been clarified.  Car dealers have the least amount of information on how the bill will affect your business model.

The CashforClunkersFacts.com website is by far the most visited site which provides comprehensive information for consumers and dealers.  The site also includes a popular FAQ page which answers questions that have poured in to the website over the past few weeks.  The FAQ page is located at http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.com/bill-faq

Consumers across the country are sending in hundreds of email questions every day and the range of questions show just how little clarity there is on the scope of the bill.  Up until now, there has been no formalized flow of information for Spanish speaking residents.  Spanish speaking consumers can now visit http://espanol.cashforclunkersfacts.com/ to learn more about the new bill.

Cash for Clunkers Information Updates Live Online

June 18, 2009 by paschconsulting

The latest news on the approval of the Cash for Clunkers bill addition to the war time funding bill can be found online at www.cashforclunkersfacts.com.

Republicans in the U.S. Senate failed today to remove the $1 billion provision from a $106 billion war funding bill. The majority Democrats needed to reach 60 votes to keep the program in the war-funding bill. They reached exactly 60 after the vote was kept open for more than a half hour.

The bill proposes to give consumers up to $4,500 to purchase a new, more fuel-efficient car.  In order to qualify, consumers would have to trade in their gas guzzlers for a more fuel-efficient vehicle that averages between 2 to 10 additional miles per gallon.

Critics feel that the cash-for-clunkers program is too expensive and might not do much to boost sales or clean the environment.  However proponents rest their support on the fact that the bill could help move 1 million new cars across the US and position the US to become less dependent on foreign oil.  Final adoption of the program by Congress is expected to take place next week.
